A person who contaminated candy with sleeping medication and distributed them to minors at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two young males aged between nine and ten.
The accused was taken into custody after eight children and one adult experienced illness at the facility in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from that region, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.
However, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was facing, which was involving a young boy.
Ruben was kept in jail ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, handling the case, detailed the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.
She explained his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.
Ruben engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, the prosecutor stated, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and ask them to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She informed the proceedings Ruben had engaged in this activity with the young males "for many years", and children had previously become sick the following morning.
She stated the defendant had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had concerns in summer 2025.
The legal representative added: "In the summer" his stepchild had worries about what was going on, justifiably.
"They decided to have a look in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel explained objects including lubricant, ointment and medical needles were located, and his stepchild notified the authorities about his worries.
She explained the defendant went on to conduct the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that stage," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, had stated that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The prosecutor explained the children were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the family member contacted the police once more.
She said Ruben then played the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
