Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Tottenham extended their unbeaten run in away games in the top division and delivered the Toffees their first defeat at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after more than a century at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven struck on two occasions from set-pieces in the first half to put their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - set up by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender believed he had equalized the tally a short while after Van de Ven's opener, directing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

Beto, meanwhile, missed a handful of opportunities, while Vicario made a succession of excellent stops to guarantee Tottenham went five away games unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee intervened, advising Craig Pawson to review the goal on the pitchside monitor and the official ruled that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

The win elevates Thomas Frank's side up to third in the Premier League, a handful of points off local foes and table-toppers the Gunners.

Everton remain 14th and sit six points ahead of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven fulfils duties at both ends of pitch

After a drab weekday performance in the European competition against the French side, where they mustered a only attempts on goal, Frank opted for Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The new arrival was failed to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

The break in Everton's winning streak at home will not be a massive worry for David Moyes, but their attacking woes are.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's pair of recognised strikers - had scored only one league goal between them before the weekend's match.

And they were unable to contribute to that poor tally on a wet and gloomy evening on Merseyside.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he chose to overhead kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, despite having space and opportunity to readjust for a more conventional attempt that would have tested Vicario.

Barry, too, failed to influence the game after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a lack of opportunity. The majority of the home side's attacks came through the winger and the forward, who relentlessly whipped dangerous balls into the Tottenham box.

Everton: Moyes' men travel to Sunderland in the top flight on early November at 8 PM.
