Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
